and National competitions like: CAG (Communication Arts Guild), State Art
Exhibition Adnomer  the annual students' festival of Sydhnem College, Malhar  the
annual students' festival of St. Xavier's College.
SUPPORT TO NGO'S & HOSPITALS
Graphic Art Publicity support is provided by students to government centers,
hospitals as well as NGO's like:  Nair Hospital,  K.E.M Hospital, Shanmukhananda
Sabha, Indian Water Works Association, Maharashtra State Commission For
Women, National Burn Center, V Care.

Sophia students' of Applied Art have won numerous awards over the years for their
excellent entries and work at The International Student Advertising Competitions
conducted by The International Advertising Association:
STUDENTS WIN AWARD AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
The students of the Advanced Applied Art class participated in the inter-college
poster competition conducted by the Indian Water Works Association, Mumbai
Centre at the 9th International Conference on 'ECOSAN' on 'Ecological Sanitation'.
We are proud to announce that our students won prizes at this competition. They
are as follows: Second Prize - Miss Mamata G. Mohite, Third Prize - Miss Natasha
Ajmera, Consolation prize - Miss Andrea Sequeira.

The students' efforts are put on display at the Annual Exhibition of the Sophia
Polytechnic which is held at the end of February each year. The exhibition is well
attended by professionals from the field of advertising & design and is a great
showcase of the students work through the year.
Annual study tours are organized to different places in and around India, where
students do sketches and paint landscapes. This gives them a greater appreciation
of the history, art and culture of our country.

This four-year course in Art & Graphic Design is recognised by the
Directorate of Art, Govt. of Maharashtra.
The Department of Art & Design was established over two decades ago and enjoys
high credibility within the industry.
It is the only prestigious course in Applied Arts in the city, which is only for girls.
Students are given exposure to the latest technological advances, by inviting
pioneers in the field like: Adobe, Apple and Kyoorious Exchange.
A state-of-the-art Computer Centre imparts formal training to students in Computer
Aided Design (CAD) which is the need of the hour.
Students of photography are provided with a professionally equipped
Photography Studio.
They can access: Two air-conditioned black and white darkrooms.  An air-conditioned
digital studio with computer facility for  reference work.
For setting up photo shoots the studio is equipped with digital cameras, a wide range
of professional lenses, flashlights, tungsten lights, channel system of lighting and
huge backgrounds.
A state-of-the-art Computer Lab is equipped with all relevant official software for art
students: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw.
There is a dedicated Workshop for students to explore different facets of printmaking
with various media.

Mr. L.N. Baijal
A veteran Hindi writer with over 30 years' experience he is a pioneer of
Transcreation in India  which is a way of using original concepts in English and
rendering them creatively in any other language. He conducts workshops on
multilingual communications, culture and communications transcreation.
Mr. Vijay Kuma
An English copywriter for over a decade, he has worked with several leading
advertising agencies in the country. A committed practitioner of transcreation he
is presently Creative Director with Dattaram Advertising. He conducts
workshops on ideation and copywriting.
Mr. Ranjan Nair
With over 2 decade's experience in the Creative Department of leading
agencies, he has won over 150 national and international awards. Mr. Nair
conducts workshops on Creative Copywriting, Creativity and Campaign
Planning.
Mr. Dayanand Chandraghatgi
With three decades experience in Account Management and Agency
Management, he is visiting faculty in leading colleges and management
institutions in Mumbai. He conducts workshops on Creative Strategic Media
Planning.
Mr. Akshay Mahajan
He has handled many national and multinational brands during his 20 years in
the advertising field. His area of specialization is Account Management and
Strategic Planning and is also visiting faculty at leading management institutes.
He conducts workshops in Marketing & Strategic Planning.
Mr. Gangadharan Menon
With over 21 years of experience, he has headed the Creative Department of
some of the most creative agencies in the country. He has won scores of
awards including CAG, ABBY, CLIO and has also won the Finalist Award at the
New York Festivals and London International Awards. He conducts workshops
on Creativity and Copywriting.
Ms. Jyoti Karmakar
A Masters in Sociology, Marketing, Advertising & P.R., she has worked with
leading advertising agencies in addition to working as a consultant to various
companies. She conducts workshops in Advertising & Marketing
Communications.
Mr. Gopi Kukde
A gold medalist from J.J. Institute of Applied Art with over 30 years experience
in the Creative Departments of leading advertising agencies he has worked on
campaigns like Asian Paints, Glaxo, Stanrose Fabrics and others. He has also
won several CAG and Ad Club awards. He conducts workshops on creativity
and identity for the students.
Mr. Vishal Bhende
With over 25 years' experience in the photography industry, he was honoured
as a Digital Consultant for Photo Asia. He has won several national and
international awards. He conducts workshops on digital photography.
Ms. Dolly Biswas
With a Diploma in Commercial Art from J.J. Institute of Applied Art and a post
graduation in Social Communications Media from Sophia Polytechnic, she has
several years of teaching experience at Sophia Polytechnic, B.D. Somani
Institute of Art & Fashion Technology and International Baccalaureate School
and K.C. College. She has also won several national and international awards.
She conducts workshops on Theory of Advertising Art and Ideas.
Mahendra Mukund Damle
A Graduate in Fine Arts from the Sir J.J. School of Art he went on to do his
Masters in Fine Arts from the same institute. He has taught the History of Art
and Aesthetics at the Sir. J.J. School of Art since 1994. He is also a visiting
faculty at: Sir J.J. College of Architecture, Rachana Sansad's Academy of
Architecture, Sophia Polytechnic, National Instute of Technology, Academy of
Theatre Arts and Thumbnail Animation Studio  Pune. During his successful
career as an artist, freelance journalist, lecturer he has participated in
numerous art exhibitions, workshops and won several awards for his works.
Anuja Rane, won laurels in Print Advertising.  She was awarded a one-month
internship with the international advertising agency - Saatchi & Saatchi.:
Ibda'a Media Student Awards is DMC's (Dubai Media City) annual programme that
seeks to identify, recognize and foster young media talent from around the world.
Anuja Rane of Sophia Polytechnic from India was among the winners of the Ibda'a
(Creativity in Arabic) awards of Dubai Media City in 2006.
ANNUAL EXHIBITION
The students' efforts are put on display at the Annual Exhibition of the Sophia
Polytechnic which is held at the end of February each year. The exhibition is well
attended by professionals from the field of advertising & design and is a great
showcase of the students work through the year.
SOPHIA STUDENTS' WIN ALL THE WAY !
The NGO  Beauty Without Cruelty organized a Poster Designing Competition on
1st Oct. 2006 on the occasion of World Vegetarian Day. Ankita Ghude from the
Applied Arts Course of Sophia Polytechnic won the first prize. Some of the other
winners in this competition from Sophia were: Deepti Vechlekar, Monica Chedda,
Neha Saini and Sanynka Mohatta

General Rules
Please Note: Students are required to read the prospectus thoroughly.
Forms for all courses are issued and accepted by the Polytechnic only after May
2nd till the 1st week of June approximately.
A separate admission form should be submitted for each course that is selected.
Students who have passed the course in Foundation Art are eligible to apply.
Admission is on the basis of merit of marks obtained at the qualifying exam.
The results of the final selection will be displayed on the notice board.
Students are expected to pay their fees within 48 hours of the selection. Failing this, the
seat will be given to another student.
Examinations are held at the end of each term. Student achievement is further
judged through a system of internal assessment. The Institute reserves the right to
retain any piece of examination / class work.
The students must submit the following documents with their admission form.
These will not be returned.
Xerox copy of the mark sheet of the required academic qualifications
Xerox copy of School Leaving Certificate.
2 copies of a photograph of the candidate ( 4cms. x 5 cms.)
Original certificates will have to be submitted to the teacher in-charge at the time of
admission.
