Fashion is a world of glamour and glitz! Trends change every day and to keep abreast with the latest an integrated course has been designed that combines artistry and aesthetics. With Indian fashion making news all over the world it makes a promising career choice.

The Department has completed 38 years of excellence. An intensive three-year Diploma Course affiliated to the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra, it covers virtually the entire gamut of the fashion industry - Garment making, Fashion illustration, Fashion Merchandising, Color Theory, Generic Skills and many more.  Moreover, going beyond the designated curriculum, over the years, new subjects, such as, Design Process, Indian Textiles, Styling, Retail & Export Merchandising, Fashion Accessories, Draping, Visual Merchandising have been introduced to enhance the overall quality of the course.

Expectedly, these provide students with the necessary edge and equip them to make a mark in the industry. Today, several ex-students who are highly placed professionals in this field are a testimony to the holistic education given here.

What makes it a "practical" course is the regular interaction of students with industry personnel who share their knowledge and experience to help bridge the gap between theory and reality. To further enhance their knowledge base and for easier transition into the professional world,
students undergo industrial training with some of the best organizations in the industry.

Study tours are also organized to widen horizons and for first-hand experience of industry mechanisms.

"TVASHTAR" - ANNUAL GARMENT DISPLAY 





As the grand finale of their three years of learning students give full expression to their creativity and depth of knowledge of the industry through an aesthetically designed and professionally presented Garment Display, "Tvashtar".

It showcases the creations of the students to give them the much-needed exposure to the industry. What makes this event so special for the students is the close involvement of the Fashion Industry.

In the recent past eminent people, such as, Priyanka Chopra, Simone Tata, Manish Malhotra, Madhur Bhandarkar have come as Chief Guests. The Panel of Jury too has comprised big names, such as, Atul Kasbekar, Archana Kochhar, Salim Asgarally, Shaina NC, Queenie Singh, Nisha Jamval, Aarti Surendranath, Krishna Mehta, Anaita Shroff, Sabina Chopra, Vinta Nanda amongst others.

As choreographer the best names have been associated with the event, James Fereira, Marc Robinson, Elric D'Souza, Achala Sachdev, Lubna Adams and Nisha Harale.  Models too are amongst those in the top bracket.


FACULTY


Ms. Jignasa Shah (Head of the Department)

Forward thinking, innovative and enterprising describes Ms. Shah aptly. In the years she has taken responsibility, she has been instrumental in upgrading the department by initiating far reaching changes. 

An Msc. in Clothing & Textiles, she has in-depth knowledge of both the subjects. Currently, she is doing PhD. on "Eco Friendly Textile Prints" with the aim to bring widespread awareness of the dangerous effects of chemicals used in printing and the possibility of viable alternatives.

Ms. Medha Sabnis (Lecturer)

A topper of this course in this very Polytechnic, Ms. Sabnis is a rare combination of talent,
incisive thinking and teaching abilities.

Armed with deep insightful knowledge of Apparel Construction and Grading, she handles her work with an ease few can surpass.

Ms. Rizvana Ansariya (Lecturer)

Ms. Ansariya has a total of 14 years teaching experience in India and abroad.

A recipient of Certificate of Excellence by Ed Excel, an UK based awarding body in Fashion Designing, she combines in-depth knowledge of subject with excellent teaching skills.

Ms. Manisha Saji (Lecturer)

Backed by 15 years experience, Ms. Saji's eloquence and command over her subject has earned her respect from both students and staff.

 Her forte lies in Apparel Construction, Indian Costume, Fashion Promotion and Management of Projects.

Ms. Tamashree Sen (Lecturer)

A ranker in both Fashion Designing and Journalism, Ms. Sen is well equipped to take students through various aspects of the course.

Her stint at Ernst & Young, one of the top accounting firms in the world, as Communications Manager, helps her give valuable professional tips to students.

ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY

  • Minimum S.S.C.
  • Selection for admission is made strictly on the basis of merit with reservation of seats for Reserved Category candidates.
  • Domiciled students:
    • Candidates should have studied in the State of Maharashtra for the two preceding academic years.
    • Children of Government employees are eligible for admission if parents have been transferred to Maharashtra within two preceding academic year.
    • Children of persons domiciled in Maharashtra in the two preceding years even if they have passed their qualifying examination from outside the State.
